Earlier this week, I had the opportunity to check out a pre-screening of Divergent with Shailene Woodley, Kate Winslet, & Theo James just to highlight a few of the favorites starring in this film. While Divergent is based on the book series by Veronica Roth, I went into this with a blind eye having never read any of the books.

Divergent | In Theaters March 21

I had seen previews and I was picturing a series “Hunger Games” style, but I will tell you… I was so pleasantly surprised. I love a good movie series based off of books. I always find myself sucked in, but 9 times out of 10, I either wasn’t a huge fan of the book or the movie didn’t exactly mimic the book in ways I would have preferred. I will tell you… as soon as I got home from this pre-screening, I bought the first book in the series and am already halfway done!

While I can’t fully compare the book to the movie as of yet, from what I’m reading so far, I am finding myself really happy with how the movie was portrayed based off the books and it’s making me even more excited for what’s to come!

Divergent is set in the future where the world is in turmoil after war destroyed the nation. The world is divided into factions to help keep the peace and when Tris discovers she’s Divergent, life as she knew it has changed forever.

When Tris (played by Shailene Woodley) realizes one of the factions has planned a conspiracy to kill those of her type, she forms an alliance with the incredibly handsome Four (played by Theo James) to stop the Erudite faction from destroying any and all Divergent’s and to discover what being Divergent truly means.

DIVERGENT

I’ll be the first to admit I was a little skeptical of the casting. I have never been a huge Shailene Woodley fan, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Kate Winslet, Ashley Judd, Tony Goldwyn (of Scandal) and I of course developed the same love for Theo James as the movie went on as just about every other woman in the theater! And I will say, especially after starting the book, Woodley nails it! She really does a great job of portraying Tris in the way her character was written… which is rare of the Hollywood world when portraying a character from a book.

Really though… I cannot WAIT to see it again!

Whether you’ve read the book or not read the book, GO SEE DIVERGENT. I promise you, you won’t regret it! If you want to read the books, but haven’t yet, do that too… but see the movie first. I actually liked seeing the story unfold on the big screen before reading it in print. But, now I am officially hooked on this series and Theo James isn’t bad to look at either 😉

I really feel like they did an amazing job portraying the book without going to “Hollywood.” (And I say that having not read the entire series yet), but from what I can tell so far, it really is based on the story itself and not sexed up or materialized – the story really is that good they didn’t have to, and I feel really good about how they brought the book onto the big screen.

DIVERGENT

Now I’m really just looking for excuses to fill up my blog with pictures of the mysterious, Four!
