Being a mom of two young kids, setting them up for healthy futures is one of my most important roles as their mom. I want to instill healthy habits on them now, so they stick with them as they get older. Proper oral care is a gateway to our health.. and that is something I never quite thought so much about until now.

Dr. Travis Stork, Emmy nominated host of The Doctors and board-certified emergency medicine physician, has partnered with Crest and Oral-B Health to help others understand that a healthy mouth is an important part of a healthy body.

I never realized how important good oral care is and how much that relies on our overall health. I had the opportunity to meet Dr. Travis at the Diva Dash Race in Charlotte over the weekend, and it was so fun to be able to chat with him and pick his brain a little bit. One of the main things I talked with him about is how hard it is being a mom knowing if we’re doing the right thing. I asked him:

I know what you recommend could be different from what another doctor recommends and there’s always going to be conflicting recommendations of what is best, but what do you recommend as a good daily routine for kids and adults alike? As a mom, I feel like I’m always learning what we thought was right maybe isn’t or vice versa, so how can I ensure I am doing the right thing to set my kids up for healthy futures?

Dr. Stork’s answer?

Keep it simple.

He went on to say how we complicate things way too much and it really is as simple as brushing, flossing, and rinsing daily. I asked I’m about oil pulling and other natural methods; how do we know when we actually need some of those ingredients for our health? And he said while oil pulling is not for him, to each their own essentially. He then went on to discuss the reasons why he decided to partner with Crest. Crest Pro Health has put out a quality product in their Tartar Protection Rinse and he feels good about promoting and recommending it to use on a regular basis.

Crest Pro-Health Tartar Protection Rinse is the ONLY mouthwash on the market that protects from both tartar AND cavities.  Tartar build up is important to avoid, because you can’t brush it off once it’s formed.

In addition to helping to protect your teeth and mouth from tartar build up and cavities, it also helps freshen up your breath and fights unwanted surface stains. I’ve been using it for about a week and I already can feel a difference in how my mouth feels.

I went into my interview with him pretty clueless about how good oral care can help our overall health and walked out with a newfound priority for keeping up with a proper oral care routine. Our mouths are the gateway to our bodies. We need to protect and take every part of our health seriously, because it truly is all connected. Besides… I want pearly whites for as long as I live! Don’t you!? There’s something about a nice fresh set of teeth that makes me feel so much better once I’ve finished brushing, flossing, and rinsing.

Want to know Dr. Travis Stork’s 5 S’s to good health? He gave me his tips in encouraging a healthy lifestyle and his 5 main recommendations to leading a healthy lifestyle.

  1. Sleep. Get more sleep. I don’t have to tell you why sleep is important to our health, but make sure you’re getting a solid eight hours every night.
  2. Stress. We all need less stress in our lives, right!?
  3. Standing. Stand more than we sit. This seems like a pretty straight forward one, doesn’t it?
  4. Social Connection. Get out there in your community!
  5. Simple. Keep it simple. I felt like he was telling me this personally after I had asked him about being a mom and how hard it is to do the right thing. He said when it comes to our health, we really complicate things way too much. Keeping it simple is important to remember. We spend too much time researching then we do actually doing.

So there you have it! Dr. Travis Stork’s 5 “Simple” Steps to living a healthier life. You can start that off, by taking advantage of this amazing new product Crest Pro-Health has put out to help make the oral care process easier. Crest Pro-Heath Tartar Protection can give you that simplicity Dr. Stork is recommending in your oral care routine covering more than one health benefit at once.

I love the 6 S’s… much like the overall health is affected by oral health.. those simple things (many stress related) directly relate to overall health. I love the stand more suggestion BTW?? You don’t hear that a lot!?

We definitely need to make sure we are taking care of ourselves including our teeth and gums because it can lead to so many other problems if we don’t!

Don’t we all!? He literally called me out and told me I was complicating things too much (which my husband was happy to hear, because he’s been telling me that for years!) lol
