How much could you do with an extra hour a day? I know when I ask myself that question, I start listing things in my head,
- More blog posts
- More laundry
- More housework
We live in a world today where we’re always feeling like we need to do more. We have to be more. For who? For us? Now that we’ve had our third baby, I’m starting to learn that word “more?” It’s not so important anymore. We need to live more in the moment. Enjoy our kids while they are young. All the other stuff will get done.
Establishing “Me” Time
How many of you are moms? And how many of you actually take some time out of your day to do something for yourself? I’ve learned to ditch the mommy guilt and give myself that little bit of time each day to unwind, whether it be taking a bubble bath, reading a book, or calling a friend I haven’t talked to in a while. I’m giving myself that extra hour, not do MORE, but to do ME.
A few weeks ago, a girlfriend and I spent a night uptown. We both just had our third babies and it was very much needed. While it was hard to leave the kids and we missed them, we felt so rejuvenated and were actually excited to return home to the chaos!
A new study by Safeco Insurance has proven all of the things we feel when we get too busy and don’t have enough time to enjoy any part of our day. The study showed that more than four in five respondents agree they need an extra hour in the day. As high as 70 percent admitted they would use that extra time to do something for themselves.
It also showed people are working longer hours and 45% are finding they re less happy in their workday. 45%! My husband is actually at his first week at a new job after leaving his previous job after repeatedly working 60 hours, sometimes even more. It’s important to recognize where changes need to be made and make them so you can be happier.
But, what if it’s not realistic to just leave your job? We were so grateful he found an amazing opportunity, but I’m a SAHM. I can’t just leave that if I’m too tired. That’s why Safeco Insurance started the #MY60 Challenge.
Safeco Insurance launched this challenge to try to help reclaim their lives and give themselves an hour a day. Safeco Insurance is challenging you to take back 60 minutes a day for 60 days and start giving something more to yourself. Download and print this checklist to help you get started.
Living in the Charlotte area, I found these local stats to be quite interesting :
The things I could do with an extra hour! I think right now the only thing I need MORE of in my life is enjoying my kids while they’re little and just taking some time to meditate, to breathe and be thankful for the fact that I have that extra hour each day to not think about all of those other “more” things in my head everyday.
What would you do with that extra hour? Take the challenge with me! Pledge to give yourself those 60 minutes for 60 days and see how it can change your life!
