3 Tips For Hosting the Perfect Brunch + Fair Trade Awareness Month

Hosting a brunch buffet can often times be stressful and a lot of work. I know I like to go all out when hosting our friends and family and a lot of the time tend to do way too much work for myself. Not this time. Considering I like to think of myself as an unofficial party planning expert after all of the parties I’ve put on over the years, I decided to share my three tips for hosting the perfect brunch with you. And what better time to do it than to share details about Fair Trade Awareness Month and where you can get some really great fair trade products for your brunch themed party and help support farmers in developing countries.

What Does It Mean to be Fair Trade Certified?

I know many times it’s hard to really understand how some countries struggle in aspects that seem so easy to us. However, in many developing countries, farmers and workers don’t receive fare wages for their goods. While BJ’s Wholesale Club gives back in many ways locally, they also do a national level as well. And we, as their customers can help contribute to that in many ways. Through the Merchandising Environmental Stewardship Program, BJ’s ensures that in developing countries, farmers and producers are paid a fair wage for their goods.

BJ’s Wholesale Club purchases 4% of the world’s Fair Trade sugar for their Fair Trade Certified product program. In addition, BJ’s also purchases all of their sugar from Belize.

Really great products such as coffee cake, brownies, pound cake, and pumpkin spice loaf are all part of the BJ’s Fair Trade Certified program in addition to several flavors of Wellsley Farms coffee which allows for you to purchase these delicious baked goods while knowing you’re supporting farmers in developing countries to feed their families.  While you’re shopping your local BJ’s Wholesale Club, browse the bakery section and find products with that Fair Trade logo on them. I’ll be sharing a full list of products available below as well.

3 Stations to Make Your Brunch Unique

  1. Coffee Station. Set up a station with a coffee pot of hot coffee with an assortment of flavored creamers, sugar, and breakfast pastries. I set up table’s of Pumpkin Spice Loaf, Coffee Cake, and Pound Cake from the Fair Trade Certified product selection available at your local BJ’s Wholesale Club.
  2. Mimosa Bar. A bar complete with two different kinds of champagne, sparkling cider, and juices to choose from for mixing. Add some sliced fresh fruit for a unique and special touch.
  3. Selection of rolled up deli meats with bread. Even though it’s not really brunch, I set up a great little sandwich bar for people to create their favorite sandwich combo’s
