I don’t know about you, but my kids are hungry ALL.THE.TIME. If I gave my kids a quarter for overtime they asked for a snack throughout the day, I would have enough money for a beach vacation by the end of Day 1. Seriously. And getting them to eat something green or healthy? Ya.. good luck with that. I’ve had to get really creative in getting them to eat something with even an ounce of nutrition on it… until recently.
We’ve been filling up our summer with pool days, visits to the splash pad, and playing games on the back deck, and quick and easy snacking has been a must for this tired mom. Whether we’re on-the-go or just lounging at home, I’ve been staying stocked up and quick and easy snacks to fill their busy little tummies. Lakelyn also is getting to the point where she wants to be eating (& doing) what big sissy and brother are into, so it’t no surprise to see both of their little fingers digging into whatever they’ve got out on the counter. Of course any baby wants something she can feed herself with and this mom is all about NO MESSES, so these make the perfect healthy treat for my lil’ snackers!

So, here are my tips for easily sneaking in veggies where you can to give your kids a wholesome & nutritious snack!
- Stay away from the “greens.” I know my kids see something green and automatically think “GROSS!” so I hide spinach, kale, broccoli, etc in things without them seeing the added color… thats why I LOVE the Gerber’s Lil’ Beanies White Cheddar & Broccoli! Not only are the puff’s themselves made out of beans, but there’s spinach “hidden inside!”
- Call it something else. Come up with fun names for whatever you’re making. I make zucchini bread, but I leave out the zucchini when mentioning it. The kids gobble it up like it’s a piece of chocolate cake!
- Give them finger foods with dips on the side! My kids LOVE to dip things! Even if you give them cracked or tortilla chips, give them veggies in the dip. Kids LOVE being independent (another reason why the Gerber’s Lil’ Beanies are perfect finger foods) but kids love to dip in sauces. Chop up some tomatoes and cucumbers in a blender and serve with crackers, or mix up some ranch dressing and stir in some puree’d avocado and serve veggies – make it fun!

I think mom’s favorite part, is I can pick them up while I’m already browsing the aisle’s in Target for 100 other items I basically don’t need, but get sucked into buying.. doesn’t everyone though?
