As my kids get older; I can’t help, but wish they could stay small forever. Isn’t that every mom’s wish? I try to savor the time with them we have at the end of each day more and more everyday. Even more now that Lavery is in Kindergarten. Even though I love to give each child their own one-on-one time, our family has had to get really creative and intentional with our family time together to really make the most of the little hours we have as a family each day.

Dinnertime is one of the only times we have as a family of five to just sit down and enjoy each other’s company. Breakfast is always chaotic getting ready to head out the door and for lunch, it’s just me and the teeniest Crowe baby around the house. We’ve had to find ways to make this time fun for the littlest and still be intentional with our time together. Here’s what we have implemented to put forth an effort to make that happen.

Switching up our meal plan.  Using a meal delivery service like Blue Apron has been one way to get us trying new things instead of just resulting back to our same meals week after week.

Praying together. Letting big brother lead us in our prayer time at the dinner table has been a way to help get him ready to lead someday, but the girls both really are so attentive to everything their brother says. It shows them how to be a good leader too.

Family Questions. We like to get out these fun family “pie questions” as Landyn calls them and ask each other fun questions like …

If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

If you could visit anywhere in the world, where it would be and why?

If you could meet one person from the past or present, who would you choose?

These are fun ways to get the family talking and enjoying our meal together rather than rushing through it. Then comes silly time!

Disney Baby keeps Lakelyn entertained while we clean up! The First Years offers a helping hand with the Mickey Mouse Feeding Seat featuring toys to let baby play. The giggles and glow coming from our kitchen is proof of both a fun and special time had around our table on a nightly basis.. don’t you think?

You can purchase your own Mickey Mouse Helping Hands Feeding & Activity Seat at Walmart too! It would make the perfect gift or what about for a new mom? Pick up a seat + gift the family with a meal. They can enjoy the meal for a night off cooking after they bring home their baby and save the seat for later.

How do you try to make the most of your time together as a family?

Do you have any ways to get everyone together at the dinner table?

Would love to hear how you make the most of your family time in the comments!

Our schedule can be pretty crazy, so dinnertime is the one time on some (not even all) days where we all 4 sit down together to eat, so our rule is no electronics, no phone usage, etc. The conversation is generally a lot of catch-up on what’s going on with everyone, which is awesome and the lack of electronics keeps everyone engaged. 🙂

The past couple of years, it’s been hard for all of us to eat together because Rosie’s been sick. Now that she’s feeling better, it will be hard with dance. We try to every chance we get.

These are some really great ways to get everyone involved in dinnertime conversation. It’s just me and my husband, but we keep our phones away from the table and just enjoy our meal and each other. 🙂
